The Federation of BC Woodlot Association Celebrates 25 years

BC’s Crown Woodlot License Program took root in 1948 when the Forest Act was amended to allow farmers to obtain small areas of Crown forest to manage as farm woodlots. This new concept of forest tenure didn’t enjoy much of a growth spurt though, until 1979; the small size and the onerous administrative requirements resulted in a very low level of interest. The Forest Act was amended in 1979 following the Pearce Commission, resulting in the creation of a new type of Woodlot Licence
