Early season wildfires affect woodlots in the north

Summers in BC are synonymous with wildfires and this year is no different. In fact, 2023 is officially BC’s worst wildfire season on record in terms of hectares burned. And woodlots have not gone unscathed. In the north so far, nine woodlots have been affected by wildfire, according to Melissa Steidle, Northern Woodlot Representative with the Federation of BC Woodlot Associations. Thankfully cooler temperatures and increased rainfall in recent weeks have dampened the fire activity in that area. The Southern Interior is now experiencing increased fire activity with hot, dry weather.
